3 years and still going!
I started looking for a big screen TV in 2004, but they were so expensive. In 2005 while buying DVD's I wanted to stroll thru the TV's and see the new technology. That's when I came across Sony's art work. Stylish frame with the side speakers was impressive. A matte front panel to protect the screen and reduce glare (not many with this feature), good for little kids that have to touch everything! It's more affordable with the combination of projection with the sharp picture of an HD LCD. If your kids play a lot of video games (me sometimes) you don't have to worry about screen burn. HDMI connections with more than enough video ports to hook up everything - HD satellite box, receiver/amplifier, DVD, VCR, Xbox, Wii, Play Station 3. Plus Memory stick compatible to really show off the family pictures (so your old parents can see them)! ;^) As far as HD action goes - I watch Discovery HD, HD sports, HD movies action and Sci Fi with no problems. Once you go HD it's difficult to watch standard definition. Put it this way, after looking at it on the sales room floor and finding out about it's features I looked at my wife to discuss finances when she said "Go ahead and get it, I love it.". Sold!
Writing this in June 2008 with over 8300+ hrs on the lamp timer and just replaced the lamp. I found one online for 0 and how to reset the timer myself. It's an easy change out. I'm as happy with this, correction, Sony's KDF-60XS955 60 inch HD LCD Projection TV now as when I first bought it. I would rather spend a little more for a quality product and be happy than go cheap and end up cussing every time something went wrong.

Great TV
The TV had a great picture, but what really surprised me was the quality of sound it produces. I have a big surround sound, but even without it, the tv sounds great. It was definately worth the money at the time (Jan 05), but by now there may be better deals.

Truly Amazing
This is truly an amazing television. The below reviews sum it up nicely, but I'll take this opportunity to reinforce the positive feedback. I've had a few widescreen HDTV sets, and this is clearly the best. Sony did this one very, very right.

Best big-screen TV I've ever had so far
I sold my old Sony 53 HDTV and I got this one. After three month I can say: It's an awesome TV. I hooked it up with a simple off-air antenna connected to the integrated HDTV tuner and off here we go. CBS, ABC, Fox, all in HDTV (for free of course). The TV has eight, yes eight, Video connections. Two of them are component.
The sound is great. Excellent bass and surround sound. I'm thinking of getting rid of my surround system to save space in my living room.
I buy a new TV every 2-3 years and I tell you won't be disappionted by buying this one.

This is an Excellent TV
WE love this TV. It is very large and has a beautiful picture, and excellent sound quality too. It's very easy to move around, since it's on wheels too and we have wood floors, so the wife can rearrange the living room without my help. We have had this TV for over 3 years and love it, we have experienced no problems whatsoever with our Sony TV, and it's cheaper then the other TV's on the market right now.

Great TV for a Great Price
This TV is great if you don't want to spend the money for plasma or LCD and get near as good quality.

Great bargain
The television offers a great picture for the price. While I was a little nervous about ordering it on-line, it arrived quickly and in perfect condition. The price on Amazon was several hundred dollars less than the store price, including shipping. The tv offers great picture and sound. It is large, so make sure you have room in your living room to fit it.

Not Sony's Best
I bought this tv when my Sony KP-53XBR300 53" Projection TV went out after six years(the red "pot" went nova) and to fix it was out of the question. As the Sony KP-53V80 had very good reviews I went for it. Bad idea for me as the more I watch it the worse the picture gets. Sharpness was nowhere to be found, the soft colors will not blend, and an all black screen has an area that shows white. The Sony KP-53XBR300 53" Projection TV was the best I had ever seen. The reviewers for the Sony KP-53V80 said it had the best picture. Not this one. I bought this one for the price and the reviews, I should have paid more and got the Sony KP-53XBR300. Just thought you might want to know.

It's not that big a deal.
When my Sony 53"XBR300 went nova and I was told by fourrepair men that it would cost too much to repair...I wentshopping and I came across these reviews. As most of the the reviews said that the picture was the best they have ever seen I thought that I would save.... Now I wish that I had spent the extra bucks and got another XBR300. .... My equipment is top shelf with a Sony DVP-S7700 connected with Monster component video cables and I use a Sony satellite system (SAT-A50, refined with a REPLAYTV. Selecting the picture mode from the presets was not much help as the "Vivid" selection was worthless, the "Standard" was the factory preset, too bright. The "Movie, Personal 1 and 2" modes can be adjusted but getting warmth and sharp is next to impossible, at least on the set I got. One of the nice touches on the V80 was the convergence adjustment, which is automatic. As I don't use cable or the sound from the tv very often I won't review those features. So, maybe it is the set I bought and maybe it is the best I can expect for the price. I did not buy it for the whistles and bells: I really bought it for the monitor (CRT) and that is my disappointment.

Nice picture / simple controls / great TV
This was my first large screen tv purchase and I was a little apprehensive that the picture might fade from view as you move side to side. The Sony has no fade that I have been able to see. It has a clear picture -- similar to looking at a regular "tubed" TV.The only complaints I have are:a) The remote control is very touchy. The large buttons stick out a ways and I'm always brushing up against them by accident.b) The speakers seem a little underpowered. I don't know if these large screen tvs are meant to have external speakers, but I sometimes have trouble hearing the sound. The brilliant picture however makes up for this shortcoming.I recommend this TV as a real solid purchase. Everyone who has come over remarks on how clear and nice the picture is.

Spectacular Big Screen
This is by far the best Big Screen out there. The Picture is like your watching a normal television. If you are looking for a big screen and don't want to spend a fortune. This is the big screen for you.

sony 53" tv best there is
I shopped around for various tv's and this one has everything in it that i need. I love the pip and the way that you can preview 13 other channels at one time. Sony has really made everything easy and right at your finger tips in this tv. And what a great price i got it for. You can't go wrong with this one.

Not bad, not great
Great TV except in high light areas. Works best in a dark place. Also, it doesn't do well with fast motion HD such as sports. There is a lot of pixelation. But while watching HD in low light areas, it's terrific. I'm replacing the lamp now though after only 3.5 years. I guess this is a normal time with normal use. But dropping 0 on a new lamp is annoying. I can't wait until the lamp goes again. Then I can justify upgrading to a Plasma or LCD.

I would reccomend this TV to a friend if the price is right.

Great Product!
I was sceptical about ordering such a high priced item off of the internet but after receiving the item I had no regrets. The Sony TV is great, the picture is amazing and set-up was a snap. The TV is a real value!

TV is Great...shipping was hassle free except the wait
Since the TV is now obsolete by the next year model, I wanted to comment on the shipping. After reading a few of the horror stories and awaiting order confirmation, I did start getting nervous. The delay in the order shipping was due to lack of inventory, since it was near the end of the model line. This wait resulted in a 0 savings when compared to Best Buy and Circuit City. Once shipped, the TV was delivered promptly to my house by very courteous guys. They helped open the box and look things over in a preliminary inspection to insure things worked. Although things were a little stressful in the middle of the process, I am happy in the end.

My first big widescreen TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First of all lets take a moment to thank my dear wife, who approved buying this :) and now she is so much in love with this set. For watching DVDs I am using a 4 year old Sony DVD player and the results can be divided into 2 broad categories. The newer DVDs look absolutely stunning, however the older ones look a little flat, and this may be due to the quality of the DVDs itself. I do not have a progressive scan DVD player [yet] and I am told that it's a great experience to move up to 480p from 480i. I am considering buying a HDMI/ progressive scan DVD player.

As far as watching TV is concerned, I have regular digital cable and the pictuer quality is not good at all, 3 out of 5 at best. I think this TV is made for HD transmission and regular/ digital cable kind of defeats the purpose.

The rest of my system comprises of a Denon 2802 receiver and 5.1 Energy speakers and this TV is a good fit with the rest of the system.

I recommend this unit.

Awesome tv for a great price
i got this tv as an open box from circuit city, and it has been great since the day i got it. The tv is very big but takes up less space than a 36in tv. The qualtiy is very good. Exceptional with dvds and video games. A must buy unless you wanna wait for some money for a plasma.

Excellent Choice Between Too Big and Too Small
This projection TV's picture quality is great for a non-HDTV set. I do agree with the previous review that to get the best picture quality you need to turn down the contrast and brightness levels, but I think this is generally true of all projection TV's. I use it in a 16 x 26 room and it is perfect. I do not reccommend the matching stand. It isn't wide enough to accomodate all of the gear a lot of people would want it for. I put mine on a slightly larger and higher unit and it worked out great.The Flash Focus feature is nice and makes aligning the tubes a snap. The only negative is the remote does not support Dish Network systems. If you have DirecTV you will be okay.The picture is incredible. Just what you would expect from a Sony. This set is well worth the price.

You'll be happy you did!
This TV is an excellent buy. From easy set-up to wonderful features, you can't go wrong. The picture is very crisp and bright. The instructions for setting up to sound systems, cable boxes, VCR's and DVD's are very concise and accurate. The optional stand is a must because the TV by itself is quite low to the ground. Once you set the options and remote to control all your other pieces of equipment, you won't even need other remotes. I have an apartment and the TV is just the right size- not too big but big enough to justify the purchase! The convergence feature for tweaking the color tubes is worth the wait. Just a simple button press and the TV goes to work converging the colors with a simple 10 second procedure. That's it.All in all, the week since I had the TV delivered has been a real waste becuase I have been watching, and playing, on it ever since. Highly recommended.

4 Years 1 Blub
So far so good i have the Sony 42 rear projection.(kdf42w655) I am the type of person to fall asleep with the tv on and its been 4 years same first bulb, no blue spots and a great picture.

after 8.5 years, the tv finally died on me. it was time to upgrade to 1080p and hdmi anyway!

Anyone having trouble with this set? My grandmothers looks very dim now, whereas I believe it looked much better in the past. I guess she may need a new bulb

Sony Projection
Great TV. I have had it for a little while but I would not trade it for anything in the wordl. I am able to experience my sports the way I imagined it should be I ahave no complaints and would recommend it to all who are avid TV watchers and do not want to spend thousands of dollars.

Great picture. spendy stand
I bought this tv a few months ago after a lot of debate. Sony always seemed to be the more expensive product, then it went on sale. 13,999 was the sale. after having to buy the necessary stand for 200, the sale price kind of vanished. Keep in mind that you will need some sort of stand for this unit as it sits too low for good viewing angle without it. The picture is great. As most people say, unless you have a good cable signal, the flaws will be very evident. But I bought this for movies. DVD's look awesome!! I only wish it was widescreen as most all dvd's come in 16:9 format. I know, why did I buy a 4:6 aspect then? Well, I don't like how if you are watching normal tv and the picture is cut down. I would definitely recommend this tv to others, but I would warn people to weigh their priorities.

Great set for the money...
I purchased this set at CC in November of 2005 for about 00. Seems like allot in today's money. But I've been extremely happy with this set and never regretted my purchase.

I have multiple HD sources(blu-ray and cable HD) both look great. Just one tip, make sure your cable box is set to "pass-through"...so that your TV does the signaling(720P, 1080i) and not the cable box. Some cable boxes will take totally over and just feed your set a 1080i signal. Some people think this is fine, being a videonut, no thanks.

Once the picture is calibrated, it is pretty spectacular and looks amazing. 42" was the right size for the room, not too big and not too small. I sit about 9 feet away. And the viewing angles are great on this set.

My last set was a Sony and I got a good 13 years from it. It still working great. You can't deny, Sony still builds quality products. I'm still on the original bulb.

Never thought a Rear-Projection TV could look and sound this good...
I have always been somewhat prejudiced against rear-projection TVs. Mostly because I judge them based purely on the way they used to be in the 1990s; Huge and heavy that never showed a clear picture or sound...the kind where you could not see a thing on the screen unless you were sitting dead-on in front of it.

This Sony WEGA LCD Rear-Projection TV has changed my outlook towards its brethren completely. I honestly never thought in my wildest dreams that a rear-projection TV can looks this good and sound this amazing. Honestly, it has the best sound system I have ever heard in a TV by far, from loud booming bass to directional sound...yes, I said directional. The TV makes it sound like surround sound straight from its somewhat hidden speakers. I don't know how it does it, but it does.

Moving onto the display, it is bright, crisp, and comes with a plethora of options and customizations to suit your viewing taste. HD Channels come to life in the clearest and crispest picture I have ever seen. And you have a variety of options for viewing non-HD channels.

Since the TV takes input up to 1080i I have all my devices (Xbox 360, Digital Cable, DVD player) hooked up to it with nothing less than component cables. The devices that can natively transmit in HD, such as the Xbox 360, flourish on this TV. I have never been so immersed in the sights and sounds of video games before!

Viewing angles: there are close to none! You can see this TV from an INCREDIBLY wide range! We have one of those TV stands where the top swivels, but we never have to even move it regardless of where we are sitting in the living room...the picture is just as crisp and clear no matter which side and however large of an angle you view it from.
The only angle you have to watch out for is vertical/height. I did notice a bit of difference in the picture if you are standing up or sitting down (depending on the height of the TV compared to yours). But even that is only if you are standing within 4-feet of the TV.

Lastly, the one factor that basically sealed the deal for me with this TV is the fact that you can replace the lamp yourself. The lamp has a life of 1.5 to 2 years (depending on how much you watch the TV) and spare ones can be bought straight from Sony or from a variety of places online for under 0. To replace it, you just open a hatch on the side of the TV (no screws), take out the old lamp cartridge, put in the new one. Yes, that's it! Additionally the TV itself actually tells you when it is time to replace the lamp...there is a light that comes on when the TV notices that your lamp is approaching the end of its life. Our TV still has its original lamp in it and it is close to 2 years old. I bought a spare lamp online just in case, but I haven't had to use it yet; the picture is still crisp and clear as it was the very first day.

i love my sony bravia! its beautiful when its turned off and when its on, it has the sweetest picture/audio(surround sound) quality ever. my husband and i bought this tv for our christmas/ anniversary gift to ourselfs. i did alot of shopping around- this was the best price and amazon shipping is super fast!

Great Picture - Not sure about Surround Sound
Ordered this TV around Christmas and it arrived on Dec 30th. Packed well and rec'd in excellent condition. There is a yellow sheet in the box that explains how to hook up the two power cords. Note: The TV sits on the subwoofer and it serves as a stand. The sheet describes with pictures how to plug in the subwoofer, but not the TV. There is a big red X over the power cord hookup for the TV. The layman would then think the TV gets its power from the connection to the subwoofer/stand. Not so. My first call was to Sony to ask why no picture. Sony had no idea. Plugging in the TV solved the problem! -duh?-then why is the yellow sheet in the box taped to the TV? The second call had to do with the subwoofer and surround (SS) not working. It does not appear to say it in the book, but the surround will only work when the TV audio setting is in Matrix. When playing a movie, change the setting to Movie. Still, the surround sound and subwoofer are of moderate value. I would recommend leaving off the subwoofer for the higher price (N model) and get the M model and use your own surround sound with amp. Lastly, there is the remote control. This is the worst design I've ever seen. Skinny and the channel/volume controls are at the bottom. So you can't operate it with one hand unless you hold the remote at the very bottom. The mute button is a recessed switch at the very bottom. Why recessed? All the TV setup controls are up at the top where one usually operates the TV. The remote should be wider and flat like an All-in-One remote. So, in conclusion, I am well satisfied with the picture and the sound is not any better than some Samsungs I've recently seen that do not have the subwoofer and SS. You would think the SS comes alive during an adventure movie, but it does not unless you turn the volume way up.

This is a fantastic product. It was very easy to set up, and the picture is great, even without an HD cable box. The sound is very good, and we don't need to take advantage of it because we use it in the bedroom. It very easily serves a room that is 11' by 18'. It would be suitable for a small living room as well.

Also, it is very reasonably priced for what it provides: superior sound and picture!

Excellent LCD First
Our first LCD TV. Really great picture quality and the built in surround sound capability is excellent without all the clutter and expense of adding a theater type system. Highly recommend this item for a normal size or small room or for someone who doesn't want a monster size screen.

Extremely Pleased!!
I bought this TV at B&H Photo for less than the S-series available at Walmart and V-series has a lot more features and capabilities than the S-series product. I am very pleased with the picture quality, sound and various features. I have watched a few fast-action movies have noticed no blurring as reported for other brands of 60Hz TV. I am also surprised that the digital out (optical) from TV connected to my audio receiver not only carries the digital sounds from DVD players, DirectV receiver, and rooftop antenna but also it appears that the analog sound from VCR is piped out of the optical digital output (I did not expect that at all). The 4-HDMI connections are more than plenty as I don't expect to use more than 3 at the most (using only two at this time). Picture quality for SD TV is fine but HD is superb. It has the capability to adjust the backlight intensity with the lighting in the room. Oh, the most pleasing thing...I have windows facing the TV (right behind me) and even with a bright sun, I don't see any glare on the screen (of course the shiny frame does have glare). It used to be a major problem with my old tube TV and I could not watch TV without my window shades drawn.

I love the TV guide feature for off-the-air channels (if picks up TV guide coded in the signal)...amazing. PAP/PIP work only if one of the inputs is cable/antenna...so, it is somewhat limited; but I have hardly used PAP/PIP in the two weeks of owning this TV.

There is one feature I wish it had: my 32" Vizio has a "panoramic screen" option for SD channels. The panoramic screen leaves the center of the picture unchanged but stretches the content away from the center to fill the screen. Sony 4150 does not have that feature.

I still cannot figure out why this TV (4150) is cheaper than 4100 even though 4150 has longer warranty (18 months as compare to 12 months). People say that 4100 and 4150 are "quite" the same except the warranty length...but I don't know what exactly are the differences (if any, apart from the warranty length).

Unfortunately, there is no description of 4150 model on the Sony website.

Overall, I am please to have spend 0 more than the the Phillips 42" TV I was seriously considering at Walmart. Sony V4150 has a lot more features and definitely far better picture and sound.

Love the TV
This was a great purchase. Easy to set up. I did have a friend help me to slip the TV into its base. Selecting the channels to watch and those not to watch (delete) was relatively easy to do. The colors are amazing and I suppose they could be even better if I took the time and effort to make them so, but they were amazing just as they were when the TV was put on the first time. The 1080 TV is something else in the sense that when I watch individual persons on shows or the news, you can see all the zits, pimples, and makeup of stars and newscasters. You could also see who's really beautiful and who's really not.

Great Picture -Don't Believe 120hz
This is a great value. The picture is superb. I own a comparable 120hz Samsung which is also great, I have got to be honest I wish I had saved the extra 0 and gotten the Samsung with 60hz the "jutter" /shaky issue is bull.There is no noticeable difference and no noticeable "jutter.Both have great pictures with blu ray videos and live action sports.Just more hype to get more $$ from consumers.

Excellent lcd tv
The Sony KDL-40V4150 appears to have very few differences when compared to the Sony KDL-40V4100, but it does have an extra 6 months on the manufacturer warranty. The picture is outstanding, even in a daylight bright room. In fact, the default "Vivid" picture setting is a bit too bright, but the "Standard" setting works out just right for us with no additional picture tweaks. 1080p and BluRay are simply incredible, enough said. I was a bit concerned that this is not a 120hz set, but I have not found any blurring or stuttering problems with movies or fast action sports. My old eyes may simply not be fast enough! Sound from the speakers is plenty loud and clear for an average family room, but movies are best with a surround system cranked up. I use a single very inexpensive (search Amazon) HDMI cable between the cable box and the tv, and another between BluRay and the tv. They both work great ... no cable mess behind the tv. Currently I run audio out from the tv to a basic surround system that I turn on for movies. This simple setup may get more complex when I install a new home entertainment system with its own HDMI switching and upconverting!

Only complaints ... there can be a long delay when switching channels, but most of that seems to be caused by the cable box. With a direct antenna feed the tv channels switch very quickly. Also, I can't program either the tv remote or the cable box remote to handle all necessary functions, so I find myself with a remote in each hand fairly often.

Sony as a System
I purchased a Sony Bravia because I wanted a TV that was, among other things, integrated with other entertainment components so that it could be enjoyed with only one remote. I have my TV integrated with a Sony BD Player and a 3.1 surround sound system. I am using the AV System remote to control all the components. They are working together with no problems now that I have read the instructions and schooled myself on which buttons to press to turn things on or off. Using the single control I am able to access the menus of each of 3 components.
